The Eurasian rock pipit (Anthus petrosus), or just rock pipit, is almost entirely coastal and is seen on rocky shorelines as it hops, walks and runs foraging for food among the boulders. The Rock Pipit, largely a resident of Ireland, UK, and France, is sometimes seen perched on prominent rocks. Breeding males have a song display in which they fly high then circle or descend to the ground with a fluttering parachute flight. It seeks out most of its prey on foot, only occasionally flying to catch insects.
