Cassin's vireo (Vireo cassinii) is named after the American ornithologist John Cassin (1813-1869). Five birds from North America are named in his honour: the Cassin's auklet, Cassin's kingbird, Cassin's vireo, Cassin's sparrow, and Cassin's finch. A songbird with a bold white eyering, it is found from southern British Columbia in Canada through the western coastal states of the United States. It migrates, spending the winter from southern Arizona (the Sonoran Desert) to southern Mexico.
