Found in Tasmania and south-eastern Australia, the blue-winged parrot (Neophema chrysostoma), also known as the blue-banded parakeet or blue-banded grass-parakeet, is a small, olive-green parrot with a distinctive blue frontal band on its head and cobalt blue upper wing coverts. Males have more blue on the wings and a more prominent, two-toned frontal band, while females are duller with more green on their wings. It is found in eucalyptus forests, grasslands, savannas, farmlands, and coastal saltmarshes. Blue-winged parrots use hollows of live and dead trees, generally eucalypts, as nesting sites up to 20 m above the ground.
