Endemic to the islands, the Galapagos Fur Seal (Arctocephalus galapagoensis) is typically found on the rocky shores of the western islands of the Galapagos Archipelago. It's scientific name very simply means bear headed. The smallest in the family of otariids (the eared seals), it has a greyish-brown fur coat which is much thicker than the Galapagos sea lion. Galapagos fur seals have large eyes so that they can hunt at night and still keep a look out for predators such as sharks.
