The Streak-eared Bulbul (Pycnonotus conradi) has pale, whitish streaks on its ear coverts (cheeks), which stand out against its otherwise plain olive-brown plumage. Bulbul itself comes from Persian and Hindi bolbol, originally meaning nightingale. It is also known as Conrad's Bulbul after Bremen sea captain Paul Conrad who was in the East Indies around 1870 and was possibly involved in collecting the first specimen of the species. The Streak-eared Bulbul is found in South-east Asia, covering countries like Thailand, Malaysia (Peninsula), Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam, inhabiting subtropical/tropical lowland forests, forest edges, parks, gardens, and agricultural areas.
