The golden-headed quetzal (Pharomachrus auriceps) is known for its vibrant iridescent green feathers and distinctive golden-bronze head. Its shimmering green and gold plumage provides effective camouflage in its arboreal habitat. Combined with its habit of perching quietly, usually on a horizontal branch in the forest canopy, this big, flashy bird remains surprisingly inconspicuous. Found in moist mid-elevation forests from eastern Panama to northern Bolivia, the golden-headed quetzal mainly eat fruits, especially those from the laurel family, but also consumes insects and occasionally small vertebrates.
