The splendid starling (Lamprotornis splendidus), also known as the splendid glossy-starling, has purple, green, blue, and copper irridesence, and black spots on the shoulders. It is found in much of Africa, from Senegal east along the coast and inland to south-western Ethiopia, south to Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola and Zambia. It is easily mistaken for the Purple Glossy Starling, but has a whitish eye, greener crown and nape, and a small coppery patch on the lower ear-coverts.
