Fischer's lovebird (Agapornis fischeri) is named after Gustav Fischer, a German explorer of East Africa in the late 19th century. The "lovebird" part of the name comes from the strong pair bonds these birds form, often described as mating for life. Fischer's lovebird is native to a small area of east-central Africa, south and southeast of Lake Victoria in northern Tanzania. It lives in isolated clumps of trees with grass plains between them.
