Woodswallows are highly social, nomadic songbirds native to the Australasian region, that have large, semi-triangular wings that allow them to soar gracefully above the forest canopy to hunt flying insects on the wing, similar to true swallows. They are, in fact, more closely related to shrikes and the Australian magpie. Woodswallows rest in tight, side-by-side rows on branches or powerlines, a means of securing the best, shaded perch, with individuals frequently nudging each other to claim the most comfortable spot.
