The small Indian tent turtle (Pangshura tentoria) gets its name from the tent-like appearance of its shell – a high vaulted shell that features hump-like projections on the keel. It has one or two brownish to red dots behind its eyes, which differentiates them from the similar Indian roofed turtle that has a crescent-shaped red mark behind the eyes. Found in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, it is primarily a riverine turtle that occurs in both small and large rivers, basking on rocks and tree snags. Due to the pink band on the seams of their carapace, they are also known as Indian pinked ring tent turtle.
