The Australian pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus) is the world's largest pelican – it also has the longest bill of any living bird. A predominantly white bird, it has black primary feathers, large blue legs, and a long, pink bill with a flexible gular pouch , which can become brighter pink or red during courtship. Males are generally larger than females. It is an opportunistic feeder that also eats other aquatic animals and will sometimes even prey on other birds such as gulls. It is widespread on the inland and coastal waters of Australia and New Guinea, also in Fiji, parts of Indonesia and as a vagrant in New Zealand.
