There are some 23 species of chipmunk in the family Tamias – Greek for "treasurer", "steward", or "housekeeper referring to its habit of storing food. Chipmunks are found in North America, with the exception of the Siberian chipmunk which is found primarily in Asia. Chipmunks have a lot of predators due to their small size. Main predators of chipmunks are snakes, hawks, owls, weasels, bobcats, raccoons and coyotes.
