The streak-throated woodpecker (Picus xanthopygaeus) has a streaked throat and scaly whitish underparts. Green above with a yellowish rump, white supercilia and white and black moustache, it is found from India to southeast Asia. The male has a red crown, the female a black crown. The Streak-breasted Woodpecker is extremely similar, but has pale eyes, denser streaking, and a thinner pale moustache stripe. It prefers open deciduous forests, wooded areas along rivers, and even human-modified orchards and gardens.
