The red-crested turaco (Tauraco erythrolophus) is only found in the wild in Central Africa. The eyes and crest are red, the beak is yellowish-green, and the body is green. Red-crested Turaco, as other members of this family, has two copper pigments, “red turacin” and “turacoverdin”, not found in any other birds. In most of birds, these bright colours are produced by diffraction of light on the surface of the feathers, but not so with turacos. If you stirred a glass of water with a red turaco feather, the water would turn pink. The call of a turaco sounds like "g'way", which is why they are often referred to as go-away birds.
