The Wall Brown (Lasiommata megera) is aptly named after its habit of basking on walls, rocks, and stony places – characteristically with wings two-thirds open. The basking allows it to benefit from the full warmth of the sun's rays and also get reflected back onto the butterfly from whichever surface it is resting on. The species lives in North Africa, Europe, the Caucasus, Asia Minor, the Middle East, western Siberia, northern Tian Shan, Dzungarian Alatau, Kazakhstan and Dzungaria.
