The Ruddy Ground Dove (Columbina talpacoti) is a bright, rusty-red/brown colour of the male's feathers, which sets it apart from other ground doves. A tiny, highly terrestrial bird native to Central and South America, it is a surprisingly fast flyer that often forages fearlessly in large flocks right underfoot in urban villages and open woodlands. Males have vibrant, rich chestnut bodies with a contrasting bluish-grey head, while females are perfectly camouflaged with muted, greyish-brown feathers so they can safely blend in while sitting on their nests.
