Native to Australia, the red-tailed black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii) – also known as Banksian or Banks' black cockatoo – has largely black plumage and scarlet panels in the tail of the male. Females have yellow spots on the head, neck and wings, and orange-yellow barring on the breast and undertail. They are found around most of Australia but more typically in the drier areas of the continent. They prefer Eucalyptus woodlands near water but may also be found in thick eucalyptus forest, rainforest and other areas. They may be seen in large flocks, especially in the north of the country.
