The Black Heron (Egretta ardesiaca), also known as the black egret, uses its wings like an umbrella, and uses the shade it creates to attract fish. This method is called canopy feeding, and avoids the sun reflection on the water to allow the bird to see fish better. It walks into shallow water, spreads the wings and arches them forwards and over its head until the primary tips skim the water. At this moment, the bird resembles a small umbrella gliding over the water, remaining motionless during a couple of seconds while its feet scrape the bottom to flush out prey.
