Native to Australia and New Zealand, the grey teal (Anas gracilis) is a small, highly nomadic dabbling duck recognised by its mottled grey-brown plumage and bright crimson eyes. It can be found in shallow freshwater wetlands, swamps, lagoons, and timbered inland river systems with thick marginal vegetation. Males and females look alike, though males make a high-pitched peep and females emit a loud, laughing chuckle.
