The endemic Jamaican crested quail-dove (Geotrygon versicolor) is named for its distinctive crest and its ground-dwelling habits, which are reminiscent of quails. A plump dove that inhabits dense, moist forests in foothills and mountains, it has a prominent grey crest of elongated feathers. The genus name Geotrygon combines Greek roots: geō meaning "ground and trygōn meaning turtledove.
