The plain-backed pipit or plain pipit (Anthus leucophrys) is quite large, and as its name implies, is one of the plainest appearances amongst its mostly drab compatriots. One of the distinguishing field marks for this species is its very upright stance. It is a resident breeder in Africa south of the Sahara Desert.
