The saffron toucanet (Pteroglossus bailloni) has bright golden-yellow plumage on its head and underparts, which closely resembles the deep yellow-orange colour of the saffron spice. Uniquely among toucans, it features striking, golden-saffron yellow feathers on its head, neck, and underparts. Its mantle (wings, shoulders, and back) is olive-green, and it has a vibrant, bright red rump. The saffron toucanet is endemic to the highly biodiverse Atlantic Forest biome in south-eastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and far north-eastern Argentina.
