The scarce chaser (Libellula fulva) is just that: scarce – it is considered rare, and its small local populations are at risk. The adult male has blue eyes and a bright blue abdomen with patches of black, while the adult female and juvenile male each have a bright orange abdomen. The male could be confused with Black-tailed Skimmer or Keeled Skimmer, but the blue eyes help to distinguish it. It is distributed throughout Europe. It is considered a species of special concern in the UK due to loss of its specific ideal habitat.
