The beautiful blue-bellied roller (Coracias cyanogaster) has a royal blue breast and belly – hence the name – wings, and tail. Rollers are named for their courtship behaviour, which includes a dive with aerial somersaults. The blue bellied hunts from a high perch and dive-bombs to ambush prey on the ground. It has several social behaviors, including calling to each other, chasing each other, flying together, and defending territory together. Blue-bellied rollers are native to western and central Africa, from Senegal to southern Sudan, and breed in a narrow belt from Senegal to northeast Democratic Republic of the Congo.
