Stick insects, also known as walking sticks, are the world's longest insects – the largest known species stretched 22 inches with its legs extended. They live in tropical and mild climates all over the world. They are usually brown, green, or black.
French stick insect
The all-female French stick insect (Clonopsis gallica) can be recognised in part by its extremely short antennas. Since the species reproduces parthenogenetically – a form of reproduction in which an unfertilised egg develops into a new individual, occurring commonly among insects and certain other arthropods – there are no males. It has an oblong light-brown body with spikes and is found in France, Croatia, Jersey, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Madeira, Tenerife, and north-western Africa.
