Townsend's warbler (Setophaga townsendi) is named after 19th Century American naturalist John Kirk Townsend, who collected numerous animal specimens during his travels. He sent many to many of these to John James Audubon who gave Townsend authority to name specimens he collected. Townsend's warbler has a yellow face with a black stripe across its cheeks extending into an ear patch. It breeds in mature coniferous and mixed forests, but nests and forages high in the trees, making it a challenge to see well.
