Prevost's squirrel or Asian tri-coloured squirrel (Callosciurus prevostii) is named after French naturalist and illustrator Florent Prévost (1794–1870). He was the author of various zoological works. Prevost's ground sparrow (Melozone biarcuatum) and Gerard's water snake (Gerarda prevostiana) are named after him. This squirrel has striking tri-colour coats - the top of the head, back, and tail are jet-black or brownish, the underparts are reddish-brown and a white line separates the two colours. It is found in forests in the Thai-Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo and nearby smaller islands, with an introduced population in northern Sulawesi. As many as 44 subspecies have been named for the Prevost's squirrel.
