The endangered Indian skimmer or Indian scissors-bill (Rynchops albicollis) is one of the three species that belong to the skimmer genus Rynchops in the family Laridae - African skimmer, Black skimmer, and Indian skimmer. It is found in rivers or estuaries in southern Asia. Breeding colonies are on islands or sandy spits, usually in rivers. The Indian Skimmer is now almost completely restricted to India as a breeding bird, with only occasional breeding in western Bangladesh. Most breeding colonies now occur along the Rivers Chambal, Ganges, Yamuna, Mahanadi and Son.
