There are some 91 species of cud-chewing hoofed antelopes in Africa and Eurasia, most of which are native to Africa. A deer-like mammal, all male antelopes have horns, which range from the short spikes of duikers to the corkscrew horns of the greater kudu. Two-thirds of female antelopes bear horns. The unbranched antlers are permanent, unlike the antlers of deer which are shed.
