The White-crowned Parrot gets its name from the distinct white patch on its forehead and crown, which looks like an old man's white hair, leading to its scientific name senilis (meaning old or grey-haired). Also known as the White-capped Pionus, it prefers canopy tree cavities in southeastern Mexico through Central America – Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica to western Panama.
