The golden-crowned sparrow (Zonotrichia atricapilla) is named for its breeding plumage – it has a broad yellow central crown stripe which becomes pale grey towards the back of the head. Golden-crowned Sparrows nest in Alaska and western Canada, then in the autumn they move south along the Pacific slope.
