The yellow-throated marten (Martes flavigula) has an orange-golden chest and lower part of the throat. Native to the Himalayas, Southeast and East Asia, its head and back are distinctly darker, blending together black, white, golden-yellow and brown. The lengthy tail is about two-thirds of its body length. The yellow-throated marten has relatively short fur which lacks the fluffiness of the pine marten, sable and beech marten. This fearsome carnivore that has no natural predator – even big cats like tigers and leopards maintain their distance from it – belongs to the family Mustelidae which includes other small carnivores like badgers, weasels, and otters. It occurs in Afghanistan and Pakistan, in the Himalayas of India, Nepal and Bhutan, the Korean Peninsula, southern China, Taiwan, and eastern Russia. Also Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
