The Zebra Mosaic (Colobura dirce) is named because of its striped pattern, which is reminiscent of a zebra's stripes. Also known as the Dirce beauty or simply mosaic, it is found in Central America and northern South America. Males and females look similar, and the butterfly exhibits a "nuthatch" tendency, walking upside down – a form of camouflage, confusing predators by making them peck at the wrong end of the butterfly.
